Ox Clutch Frequently Asked Questions

Finding the Right PTO Clutch

Do you carry the part I’m looking for?

Use our Product Search Tool to check availability. Simply enter the part number from your original PTO clutch. If we carry it, it will appear in our catalog.

How do I know which PTO clutch I need?

The most accurate way to identify the correct replacement is to reference the part number stamped directly on your original clutch. That number corresponds to your mower’s factory-installed component — not necessarily what appears in a parts diagram.

It’s important to note that OEM part numbers listed in manuals or online catalogs don’t always match the clutch that was factory-installed on your equipment. Many manufacturers, including Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, and others, use different Warner or Ogura clutches within the same model line.

Why this matters:

  • Manufacturers often used different Warner or Ogura clutches even within the same mower model.
  • OEM part numbers in manuals or third-party catalogs don’t always match what’s installed on your equipment.
  • Relying on catalog data can easily lead to the wrong replacement.

To ensure a correct match, compare the specifications listed on our product pages with your existing clutch.
Check the following before ordering:

  • Pulley diameter
  • Rotation direction
  • Shaft bore size (ID)

If any of these differ, the clutch may not fit correctly.

If your part number is missing or unreadable:

You may refer to your original parts manual/diagram. Please ensure this is the correct manual by matching the make/model/serial numbers/engine to match your equipment. Always double-check your original clutch's specs and ensure they match prior to purchasing.

Still not certain?

Use our Clutch Request Form and include as much information as possible about your mower’s make, model, and your original clutch measurements/markings. Our team will review the details and help confirm specs before you buy.

Installation, Fit, and Compatibility

Is the clutch ready to install?

Yes. Each Ox Clutch is fully assembled and ready to install. Detailed instructions and visual diagrams are included with every order.

The plug looks different from my original clutch—Help!

Our clutches are compatible with multiple brands, so plug variations are normal. A simple wiring splice, described in your installation instructions, will ensure proper fit and function. Performance will be identical once installed correctly.
If you’d like to see this process in action, our PTO Clutch Installation video demonstrates how to adapt connector plugs safely and correctly.

How do I install my new PTO Clutch?

Comprehensive installation instructions and diagrams are included with your order. We recommend taking photos of your old clutch before removal to help confirm orientation. Your new clutch will generally install in the same position as the original.

What voltage do Ox Clutch PTO clutches operate on?

All Ox Clutch PTO clutches operate on standard 12-volt electrical systems used in most lawn and garden equipment. Always verify that your mower provides consistent voltage before installation to prevent premature clutch wear.

Returns, Exchanges, and Warranty

What is your return policy?

Ox Clutch accepts returns or exchanges within 30 days of receipt. Returned items must be new, unused, and in their original packaging. A restocking fee of up to 20% may apply. Request an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) before sending items back.
For complete details, visit our Returns Policy.

Can I exchange my clutch for a different model?

Yes. If you ordered the wrong clutch, we’ll gladly assist with an exchange once your return is received and inspected.

My clutch isn’t working properly — what should I check first?

Most clutch issues can be traced to simple electrical or alignment problems. Before starting a warranty claim, we recommend the following quick checks:

  1. Confirm your voltage. PTO clutches require a full 12 volts to engage properly. Weak batteries, poor grounds, or faulty relays can prevent activation.
  2. Inspect belt alignment. A misaligned or overtightened belt can cause noise, slipping, or premature bearing wear.
  3. Listen for irregular sounds. Rattling or scraping may indicate debris between the clutch and pulley face or installation error.
  4. Check for overheating. If the clutch is too hot to touch, ensure it’s not slipping or drawing excessive current.

How do I file a warranty claim?

If troubleshooting doesn’t resolve the issue, follow these steps:

  1. Review our Warranty Policy in full.
  2. Take clear photos of your clutch installation and wiring. Photos of the installation at the time of failure are required for all warranty claims.
  3. Complete the requested installation information and submit.

Submitting complete details ensures the fastest possible turnaround for your replacement.
Before filing, we strongly recommend first watching our troubleshooting and installation videos on our Ox Clutch YouTube Channel.

What does the Ox Clutch warranty cover?

Our one-year warranty covers manufacturing defects and workmanship issues. Damage from any outside source is not covered. Examples include (not limited to) improper installation, wiring, or alignment.
Even if your clutch failure is outside warranty, you can still take advantage of our exclusive Lifetime Discount Program for continued savings.
